November 23, 2009 Northwestern Scientists hosted a team of industry researchers from the Nanoelectronics Research Initiative (NRI) as part of the joint NRI/NSF Supplement to the Northwestern MRSEC. The visiting NRI team included Jim Hannon (IBM), Zoran Krivokapic (Global Foundries), and Luigi Colombo (Texas Instrument).
In addition, Steve Kramer (Micron), Yaw Obeng (NIST), Ajey Jacob (Intel), and Allison Hilbert (NRI) attended via web-conferencing.
This was the first site-visit to Northwestern by the NRI team. MRSEC Director Monica Olvera de la Cruz began with an overview of MRSEC research, then NRI Liaison team leader Mark Hersam presented the NRI Project Overview, as well as recent breakthroughs in carbon-based nanomaterials. Co-PIs Tobin Marks and Lincoln Lauhon presented their NRI-related work on self-assembled nanodielectrics and scanning probe and device characterization, respectively. The site visit concluded with lab tours of Northwestern's extensive facilities led by NRI-supported students and postdocs.
