Mixed-Conducting Oxygen Membrane

Researchers at NU-MRSEC demonstrated a new mixed-conducting oxide membrane material: (La,Sr)(Ga,Mg,Co)O3 (LSGMC). The material produces pure oxygen (on the left side of the figure) from air (supplied on the right side of the figure). Potential applications of this new material incude the production of hydrogen and liquid fuels from natural gas, as shown in the figure; and the production of pure oxygen for efficient, clean coal power plants with CO2 sequestration.
