This presentation will outline our efforts to synthesize and study new organic electronic materials in the forms of crystalline small molecules and high-molecular-weight conjugated polymers. (Opto)electronic properties are characterized by abs/PL and electrochemical measurements. Bulk self-assembly is studied by single crystal x-ray crystallography (small molecules) and fiber wide-angle x-ray diffraction (polymers). A recently established collaboration has lead to solution-processed, polymer-based photovoltaic devices with up to 1.8 % PCE and thin film transistors with hole mobilities up to 0.3 cm2/Vs (fabrication /testing in air), with the most basic device configurations and without optimization.
